The New Playroom Is Here!
All fall, the Children’s Room has worked behind the scenes to prepare toys, furniture, and events for a new playroom focused on children from birth through preschool. On Monday, December 17th, the new activities were unveiled for everyone to enjoy!
Rotating through five different play themes–construction, food play, science, imagination, and whole-body play–the playroom will welcome all young children and their caregivers to laugh, explore, and investigate together. Except when storytimes are in progress, the playroom will be open throughout the day.
Families can bring these playful experiences to life with events, too. Each month, the library will host activities that tie into each of the playroom’s themes. Take a look at the calendar to see what’s been scheduled so far! Just click on the “Playroom” tag to see all of those special activities.
The new playroom is made possible with federal funds provided by the Institute of Museum and Library Services and administered by the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners.

Artist’s Statement ~
SEAN HAGAN has been painting and illustrating professionally for over 15 years. Jazz musicians and wine are central themes in his work. Currently he is exploring abstract art combined with jazz elements, as seen in ‘Club de Jazz, 2011’. Also new this year are some pieces that are purely digital, such as ‘The Jazz Trio’, which was created with Photoshop and Flash. He works out of his home studio on the North Shore.
TONY PILLA is an exhibiting artist and printmaker whose medium is woodcut. Over the years his award-winning work has been selected for group exhibitions at area institutions such as the Art Complex Museum, School of the Museum of Fine Arts Boston, Evos Gallery in Lowell, and Concord Art Association. In addition to receiving First Place in several art competitions in the area, his awards include the George Lockwood Prize for Excellence in Printmaking from the Pembroke Art Festival and the 1990/1991 Esther Conant Prize for Best Show at the Helen Bumpus Gallery.
This exhibit would not be possible without assistance from the Friends of the Bedford Free Public Library.

“The Nature Around Us”
Artist Statement:
Nothing has me reaching for my camera faster than spotting one of the local creatures that live all around us. I have always had a great appreciation for all of nature and its many wonders. However, it wasn’t until I started doing some photography that I really began to appreciate the beauty of the animal world around us.
My local accomplishments include having my photographs feature in:
- 2018 Town Planner Calendar
- 2017 Town Planner Calendar
- Front page of the Bedford MinuteMan Newspaper, June 2016
- OARS 2014 Calendar, in support of the Assabet, Sudbury & Concord Rivers
