Dinovember at BFPL

What is “Dinovember?”

  • You can go on a “dinosaur hunt” by counting the number of dinosaurs you find on our windows.  Then, add just the number to the form below.
  • You can vote for your favorite dinosaur on the form below.  Please note that the form does not work on the Minuteman Mobile app.
  • Watch for Facebook photos of dinosaur mischief, “What the dinosaurs did at your library”
  • Dinovember “DIY Take and Make” craft kits will be available starting on Monday, November 23, while supplies last.  Kits will be available, first come first served, inside the contact-free pickup area.  15 kits will be available on Monday, November 23 and 15 kits will be available on Tuesday, November 24.
  • Remember to check out some of our books about dinosaurs.

Family Music with Sarah Gardner

Hi, everyone!  It’s been ages since the library has invited Ms. Sarah to perform one of her awesome concerts.  At long last, she’s back!  We’ll host a fun morning of music on the 1st and 3rd Tuesdays of each month, and the recorded concert will be available for a few days after each event.

Whether you and your young child(ren) are new to Sarah’s concerts or longtime fans, we’re delighted you’re here to join the fun.  Grab some spoons to tap, something to shake (plastic food containers and fishy crackers work well!), and a scarf or small towel to wave around.

You can watch right here, or click through to YouTube for even more options.  The fun starts at 10:30am!

Many thanks to the Friends of the Library for supporting this concert series.

Friends of the Library Online Book Sale!

Click Here to Shop our Online Bookstore

While it won’t replace the three yearly sales at the library, it will help the Friends support the programs they so generously underwrite.  The contact free online sale provides patrons with the option of buying bags of books (4-10/bag) on different subjects from kids’ books to adult fiction and non-fiction, all for just $10!  In addition, individual books and sets of books grouped by subject or author are for sale for very reasonable prices. The best part is that volunteers deliver the books to your door! (Bedford only) Payment can be made online, preferably with a credit card.  Depending on volume of sales, delivery could take up to a week.

While the Friends can’t take any donations at the moment due to a lack of space, they are working on solutions to this problem so stay tuned!

Proceeds from book sales help underwrite library programs and services, including lecture and film series, additions to the library collection, and museum passes.

Scholastic Teachables

If your family is doing any learning from home (and that’s pretty much everyone right now), here’s a new e-resource from the library!  Scholastic Teachables is available to all Bedford residents and features worksheets, activity pages, coloring sheets, and a lot more.  Click the picture below to take a look.

Special thanks to the Friends of the Bedford Free Public Library for sponsoring this new resource!

World Postcard Day

October 1st is “World Postcard Day.”

You can request this book from our library:
Postcard History Series: Bedford, by Alethea A. Yates.

The Bedford Historical Society has a large online collection of postcards:

If you don’t have a postcard to send to someone special, the front of a greeting card usually works!

Discovering New Teen Books

Even though the library building is closed to the public, we are always ordering more books and materials! And we know it’s hard not to be able to browse the shelves, but there are a few options to help.

New Teen Books – Check out our page of new teen books that is updated frequently. This is just a selection of new items, so if you don’t see something there, that doesn’t mean we don’t have it!

Personalized Reading Lists – Don’t know what to pick? We’re happy to help! Tell us what kinds of things you’re looking for and what you’ve enjoyed in the past, and we’ll pick out some titles for you within a week!

Booklists – When you need more inspiration to choose a book, check out our page of booklists. Click the arrow on the right of the booklist name to see the titles, including links to our catalog!
