Winter Read 2021

From January 1st to January 31st, the Bedford Free Public Library will participate in Beanstack’s Fourth Annual Winter Reading Challenge, “Books Like Us,” sponsored by Simon and Schuster (S&S).

This reading challenge is for everyone!  Adults, teens, and kids are all invited.  We challenge you to read at least 10 books during the month and keep track of your reading on our Beanstack site at bedfordlibrary.beanstack.org.   We’ll join thousands of libraries and schools across the nation in this annual reading program.

Prizes for schools and libraries who join the challenge will include book collections and virtual author visits. Ten (10) winning schools or libraries will each get a collection of fifty (50) books from the “Books Like Us” collection. Happy reading, Bedford!

Celebrate Dewey Decimal Day – December 10!

December 10 is Melvil Dewey’s birthday.  He developed the “Dewey Decimal System” for classifying books.  Many public libraries, in the United States use this system, including Bedford!

Today, we also recognize 327.172, the Dewey number for the Nobel Prize because December 10 is “Nobel Prize Day.”  Today is also “Human Rights Day,” Dewey number 323, both important days for the world community.

My favorite Dewey number is 398.2, the number for “Folk and Fairy Tales.”  What’s your favorite Dewey number??
